Who flies there, and how much does it cost? Grant is the only scheduled service, about $45 one way. Charters are approximately $85 for a Cessna 172 and you can charter with Craig Air, Hageland Aviation, and Kusko Aviation. During the winter months cabs operate on the river providing another commercial travel option. When you reach your site, how do you get from the airport to your home? Walk, four-wheeler, and snow machine How big is the village? 390 people (Geographic makeup-along a river, slough, coast? Tundra, muddy, hills, cliffs? Etc.) The village stretches about one mile along a slough off the Kuskokwim River. It is eight miles down river from Bethel. It is muddy with tall willow bushes. Whats the weather like, and what is it like in August? There is little wind, and its rainy in August. It can be very cold in the winter. How many students in school? 130 How many teachers? 9 Describe the housing (i.e., running water? honey buckets?) There are four duplexes, ranging in size from 600 to 1100 square feet per side. The homes have flush haul water systems installed in the homes. Flush toilets and running water are on a low flow water system with water delivered once a week. Laundry facilities are avialable at the school.. Stores? Are they well stocked or do you order? One store that is moderately well stocked. Once the river freezes many people travel to Bethel to shop. If you order, who do you recommend? Span Alaska, Prairie Market, Meat Market, Alaska Bush Shippers are all quality mail order services.. What should a new teacher bring? Household goods, warm clothing, mud boots, books and games for entertainment. A computer, we have an ISP with a local number in the community.
